Fire Prevention Open House - October 5th - 7 to 9pm

The Medford Lakes Fire Department is hosting their annual fire prevention open house on Tuesday, October 5th from 7pm to 9pm. All residents are encouraged to stop by and learn about fire safety, see a "live" automobile rescue, watch a ladder rescue demonstration, meet - greet - and take pictures with SPARKY, have the kids get hands-on training in the fire prevention trailer and get an up close tour of the Borough's new Fire Engine.

Finley, the Camden River Sharks mascot will also be in attendance.

So.....stop on by and enjoy a fire safety packed evening!!

Medford Lakes Borough to Participate in “Operation Take Back New Jersey”

The Medford Lakes Police Department, will be hosting an Operation Take Back New Jersey local collection site as part of the Operation Take Back NJ medicine disposal day. The event will take place at the Medford Lakes Police Department between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2010. This initiative, open to all residents, was organized to encourage local community residents to properly dispose of their unused, unwanted and expired medicine.

This statewide effort, with the majority of New Jersey police departments participating, is being spearheaded by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) New Jersey Division, the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, the NY/NJ HIDTA, and the New Jersey National Guard. Medford Lakes residents looking for information on the program and local collection sites should visit www.operationtakebacknj.com.

Medford Lakes Police Chief Frank Martine stated, “Prescription drug abuse is very prevalent today especially among our youth. It’s very easy to enter into the medicine cabinet and find prescriptions that are no longer being used by the person they were intended. The Medford Lakes Police Department is excited to continue this initiative sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration. This program not only allows for the proper disposal of unwanted prescription medications but it also alerts the public about a potential life threatening situation.”

John G. McCabe, Jr., Acting Special Agent in Charge of the DEA New Jersey Division stated, “Last year New Jersey opened its medicine cabinets and we collected over 9,000 pounds of medicine that was unwanted. This year, we are very excited about the continued support brought on by Operation Take Back New Jersey, and we hope all citizens will take time to eliminate any and all medicines that are not suitable for proper medical use. The more public attention we bring to this issue, the more we trust that people will become educated on the dangers of prescription drug abuse.”

According to McCabe, the most recent studies by Monitoring the Future, University of Michigan, between 1997 and 2007, stated that treatment admissions for prescription painkillers increased more than 400 percent. In addition, between 2004 and 2008, the number of visits to hospital emergency departments involving the non-medical use of narcotic painkillers increased 111 percent. The proper disposal of unwanted medication will help reduce the potential for pharmaceutical diversion.

September 11th Remembrance Ceremony

The Medford Lakes Fire Department will be holding a remembrance ceremony in honor of the victims of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks. This ceremony will be held at Memorial Circle across from Cathedral of the Woods on Saturday, September 11th at 1:00 pm.

All residents are invited to join the Fire Department, Police Department, Emergency Squad, Cub Scouts, church officials and others as we commemorate the 9th Anniversary of this national tragedy.

Pet Waste Pollutes Our Waters!

Clean and plentiful water is important to our families, our environment, our economy and our quality of life. Pet waste, which contains high concentrations of bacteria and disease causing microorganisms, is washed by rain and melting snow into storm drains that carry it to our lakes and streams, ultimately back into our drinking water. In an effort to keep New Jersey’s waters clean, each municipality adopted a strict pet waste ordinance. All pet owners are required to pick up after their pets. Please do your part to help keep Medford Lakes a beautiful and healthy place to live, work & play!

RESOLUTION NUMBER 125-10

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATIONS

WHEREAS, on August 6th and August 7th, 2010 the Medford Lakes Colony will be hosting their annual “Canoe Carnival” and “Festival of Lights” events; and

WHEREAS, N.J.R.S. 39:4-197.3 provides that “the governing body of any municipality may, upon the adoption of a resolution, declaring that an emergency or temporary condition dictates adoption of special traffic regulations within the scope of any of the items listed in subparagraph (1 to 8); and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of public safety that special traffic regulations be imposed during the period of time during which the above events are to be held;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Borough Council of the Borough of Medford Lakes, County of Burlington, State of New Jersey as follows:

1. The Chief of Police of the Borough of Medford Lakes is hereby ordered and directed to take all actions appropriate and necessary for the implementation of the following temporary traffic regulations:

TRAFFIC REGULATIONS

Chief Frank Martine advises all residents and operators of motor vehicles that the following special traffic regulations will be in effect for the annual Canoe Carnival on Saturday, August 7, 2010. Additional traffic regulations will also be in effect for Chippewa Trail on Friday, August 6, 2008 for the annual Festival of Lights Night.

There will be NO PARKING in the following areas between the hours of 4:00 pm, Saturday, August 7, and 4:00 am, Sunday, August 8, 2010. Violators will be issued traffic citations and vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Apache Trail No Parking the entire length on the west side.
Beach Drive No Parking the entire length on either side.
Beach One Park Lot No Public Parking, reserved for VIP, handicapped and emergency vehicles.
Bowker Road No Parking the entire length on the north side.
Cherokee Trail No Parking southbound (Beach One side.)

Parts of Tabernacle and McKendimen Roads will also be restricted to motor vehicle traffic beginning at 8:30 pm.

On Tuesday, August 10, 2010, the contractor for Princeton Hydro will continue drilling operations at Mishe Mokwa Dam. The bridge/walkway will be closed to pedestrian traffic for the entire day. The entire length of fence along the pathway will be removed. The contractor will install overnight barricades and DPW crew will replace the fence on Wednesday, August 11, 2010.

DISASTER ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE IN BURLINGTON COUNTY

Residents Impacted By Recent Storms and Floods May Be Eligible For Federal Aid

Burlington County residents whose homes were heavily damaged during the period of torrential rain storms and flooding that occurred between March 12 and April 15, 2010 now may be eligible to receive federal assistance for repairs, officials with the Burlington County Office of Emergency Management announced today.
Residents who may be eligible for individual assistance grants are encouraged to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as soon as possible. This applies to homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes.
“We identified more than 300 homes that were impacted by the storms,” said Kevin Tuno, Burlington County Emergency Management Coordinator. “But FEMA is already out, canvassing areas that were affected, and passing out information to those who may not have been identified.”
To register for the assistance, residents may call FEMA’s toll-free number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY/TDD 1-800-462-7585 for people with speech and hearing disabilities (for relay service, call 711 or 1-800-852-7897) between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m., seven days a week.
Multi-lingual operators are available to answer calls during this time. Residents may also register online anytime at www.disasterassistance.gov.

To speed assistance, individuals should be ready to provide:
• Their current phone number.
• Their address at the time of the disaster and the address where they are now staying.
• Their Social Security number, if available.
• A general list of damages and losses they suffered.
• If insured, their insurance policy number, or the agent's and company name.
Individual assistance may include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses not met by insurance or other assistance programs. Low interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) also will be available to cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance.
Tuno said that, in addition to the toll-free number and website, a “walk-in” disaster center is expected to be set up within the next week at Hainesport Fire Company on Broad Street.

Medford Area Community Leaders Gather to Discuss Solutions for Watershed Protection and Lake Management

Residents and community leaders representing lake communities from Medford, Medford Lakes and Evesham will participate in a workshop focusing on lake and watershed protection issues. The free workshop is being presented for the first time by the Medford Open Space and Environmental Commission and the Medford Lake Colony Lake Restoration Committee in collaboration with the Pinelands Preservation Alliance.

The workshop will focus on control of invasive aquatic weeds, geese and waterfowl management, reduction of pollution from fertilizers and pesticides and other sources, native and wildlife landscaping to prevent pollution runoff and current dam regulations.

There are more than 50 lakes in the communities represented at the conference. Each year individual lake associations deal with a host of problems including invasive weed management requiring the application of chemical herbicides, algae problems fueled by the runoff of fertilizers and pet wastes, and overpopulation of nonmigratory geese leading to severe pollution problems in some cases forcing communities to close lakes to swimming. The workshop is a first step toward more active sharing of solutions and promotion of best management practices for lake management, landscaping and goose control in the lakes that are all part of the Rancocas Creek Watershed.

The conference is presented with sponsorship from Princeton Hydro, Aquatic Technologies and the law firm of White and Williams.

FLOOD VICTIMS ENCOURAGED TO REPORT DAMAGE

Emergency Management Officials Prepare Appeal for FEMA Reimbursement

Freeholder Mary Ann O’Brien today encouraged any residents who experienced
property damage from the March 12-13 rain storm to report that damage to
their local emergency management officials or the Burlington County Office
of Emergency Management at 609-518-7200.
Any damage caused by flooded waterways, rising ground water or high winds
can be reported to officials by leaving name, address, phone number and
description of damage, and a cost estimate if available.
“We have received scattered reports of property damage from that storm from
around the county,’’ Freeholder O’Brien said. “It is our belief that, if one
resident on a particular street or in a specific area sustained property
damage, it is likely that neighbors experienced similar damage but just
haven’t reported it. We encourage them to do so.’’
Burlington County OEM will process and forward the reports and appeal to the
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for partial reimbursement for
those damages.
That winter storm began on Friday, March 12 and, when precipitation ended
more than 48 hours later, up to seven inches of rain had fallen in parts of
Burlington County, causing widespread flooding, particularly along the North
Branch of the Rancocas Creek.
Additionally, damaging winds between 50-60 mph with gusts up to 70 mph blew
down trees and utility lines that resulted in nearly 460,000 PSE&G customers
losing service.
Problems continued into the following week as creeks and rivers began to
crest to record levels.

Affected by Severe Storms and Flooding

WASHINGTON – Administrator Karen G. Mills of the U.S. Small Business Administration issued the following statement after the announcement of Presidential disaster declaration in
New Jersey for several counties affected by the severe storms and flooding beginning on
March 12:

“The U.S. Small Business Administration is strongly committed to providing the people of New Jersey with the most effective and customer-focused response possible to assist homeowners, renters, and small businesses with federal disaster loans. Getting our businesses and communities up and running after a disaster is our highest priority at SBA.”

The disaster declaration covers Atlantic, Bergen, Cape May, Essex, Gloucester, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Passaic, Somerset and Union counties in New Jersey, which are eligible for both Physical and Economic Injury Disaster Loans from the SBA. Small businesses and most private non-profit organizations in the following adjacent counties are eligible to apply only for SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans: Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Hudson, Hunterdon, Ocean, Salem, Sussex and Warren in New Jersey; New Castle in Delaware; Bronx, New York, Orange, Rockland and Westchester in New York; Bucks, Delaware and Philadelphia in Pennsylvania.

Disaster loans up to $200,000 are available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate. Homeowners and renters are eligible up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property.

Businesses and non-profit organizations of any size may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory, and other business assets. SBA can also lend additional funds to help with the cost of making improvements that protect, prevent or minimize the same type of disaster damage in the future.

For small businesses and most private non-profit organizations of all sizes, the SBA offers Economic Injury Disaster Loans to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster. Economic Injury Disaster Loan assistance is available regardless of whether the business suffered any physical property damage.

Interest rates are as low as 2.625 percent for homeowners and renters, 4 percent for businesses and 3 percent for non-profit organization with terms up to 30 years. Loan amounts and terms are set by the SBA and are based on each applicant’s financial condition.

To be considered for all forms of disaster assistance call the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at 800-621-FEMA (3362). The locations of Disaster Recovery Centers and the loan application process can be obtained by calling the SBA Customer Service Center at

Census forms are due to arrive at most homes the week of March 15th and should be mailed back to the U.S. Census Bureau no later than April 1st.
For the first time, the census will be one short form with only 10 questions. It takes about 10 minutes to answer the 10 questions but will affect our community for the next 10 years. Individual answers are strictly confidential and will not be distributed to other governmental agencies. The U.S. Census 2000 report has ranked the Borough of Medford Lakes as number one in Burlington County having returned 86% of the surveys. Are we up for the challenge to repeat? If so, let’s return 100%!!!

Please come out to welcome home CWO 5 Christopher Harty from serving in Iraq. Chris is 56 years old. He was called from retirement for a second time to serve a deployment as a liaison officer. He retired from the Marine Corps and police force in 2000; he continued to work as a college professor and for the state before again volunteering his services to the Corps. HE IS ALSO A VIETNAM VETERAN. He has served 38 years. There is much more to his resume’ that we will share on Saturday. Please come out to honor this man and his service. He just returned from Iraq. We would like to show him that a grateful nation stands behind him…always. Our scheduled recycling collection for Tuesday, February 16th has been changed to Wednesday, February 17th.

Borough of Medford Lakes Snow Management Plan
Winter Snow Removal Plan
The Borough of Medford Lakes recognizes the importance of snow removal, not only to residents, but to everyone who needs to travel to or through our community. The Borough utilizes a “Snow Management Plan” to safely clear all Public Roads within the Borough quickly and efficiently. Based on traffic flow, roads are divided into primary (main), secondary (collector and through), and tertiary (dead-end) roads.
Our Goal is to have all Borough roads clear within 18-24 hours after snow has STOPPED FALLING. This Plan, with your cooperation, will ensure the best use of time, Borough resources, equipment and manpower during snow removal and emergencies. This publication is designed to detail that Plan and its regulations, and to guide residents and businesses during a winter storm.
When a Snow Emergency has been declared, the Borough activates its Emergency Operations Center at the Public Works Garage. The Center is staffed by a Borough employee who is in contact with all snow removal crews. They update the list of cleared streets as crews report them plowed.

The following list includes all streets designated as primary streets/emergency routes. All other streets are either considered secondary (collector and through) streets or tertiary streets (if they are dead-ends). Remember that no parking is permitted on primary “Snow Emergency Routes” during declared snow emergencies.

Snow Plowing Begins
A Snow Emergency is Declared
• The Public Works Department begins plowing roads when it is determined that at least 2 inches of snow can be measured on the road. Plows are ineffective in smaller amounts of snow.
• With the start of plowing, the Borough Manager, Chief of Police or Director of Public Works declares a Snow Emergency.
• During a Snow Emergency, parking is prohibited on all roads designated as Snow Emergency Routes.
• Plowing crews are linked with the Borough via two-way radios and cell phones to assist police, fire, and ambulance personnel with emergency situations.
• The Public Works Department plows 101 streets.

• The first priority is to clear all primary (main) roads. This work generally takes six (6) to eight (8) hours after snow stops falling.
• Crews begin plowing secondary roads after clearing and opening all primary roads. These collector and through roads are usually cleared within 12 to 16 hours AFTER snow stops falling.
• Crews then move on to side roads.
• Medford Lakes has over 100 streets; so, please be patient.
• Basketball Nets must maintain a clearance of 11 feet near curb line to allow plow equipment to pass.
During severe storms, crews need to make multiple passes on primary roads. These primary roads are the most heavily traveled roads in the Borough and must be cleared and opened first to allow for the passage of emergency and general traffic. Plowing primary roads may have to continue until after the snow stops falling.
The Township’s secondary roads and side streets are divided into four route areas so that snow plowing can be accomplished as quickly and efficiently as possible. Crews rotate the starting point after each new storm to ensure that all areas receive equal treatment during the snow removal season.
Crews attempt to clear all streets to the curb-line during snow removal. This may not be possible for properties with trees whose branches hang over the street or have basketball nets (providing a clearance of less than 11 feet) or where mailboxes extend beyond the curb.

Snow Emergency Regulations
• Vehicles are prohibited from parking on primary roads - those designated as Snow Emergency Routes. Residents are also advised to remove vehicles from these routes as soon as the snow begins to fall.
• Vehicles are prohibited from parking or hanging over onto roads from driveways until the snow is cleared.
• Please keep all vehicles in private driveways, if possible.

SECTION I. Purpose:
An ordinance to regulate the outdoor application of fertilizer so as to reduce
the overall amount of excess nutrients entering waterways, thereby helping to
protect and improve surface water quality. This ordinance does not apply to
fertilizer application on commercial farms.

Over 9,000 Pounds of Prescription and OTC Medicine Collected

(Newark, NJ) - Operation Medicine Cabinet New Jersey was deemed a success when over 9,000 pounds of prescription and over-the-counter medicine (OTC) was collected. On November 19, 2009, over 440 local police departments and sheriff departments in all of New Jersey's 21 counties hosted collection sites, making New Jersey the first state in the nation to coordinate a statewide effort to rid homes of unwanted and unneeded drugs of all types.

Many local and statewide prevention and enforcement organizations partnered with Operation Medicine Cabinet lead agencies: the DEA New Jersey Division, the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General (OAG), and the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey (PDFNJ).

As New Jersey’s only poison center, the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System (NJPIES) has a long history of educating the public about the dangers of drugs in the home. NJPIES contributed to Operation Medicine Cabinet New Jersey by supplying educational material to collection sites throughout the state. Prescription and OTC drug abuse is just one of the dangers the center tracks and hopes to prevent through its public education efforts.

According to Dr. Steven Marcus, Executive and Medical Director of NJPIES, “….the more obvious risks associated with sedatives and stimulants in the home are being overlooked. As with most public health issues, the key is prevention and an easy way to prevent prescription drug abuse as well as mishaps with OTC medication is a simple medicine cabinet lock”.

Future plans are underway for expanding Operation Medicine Cabinet to other states throughout the country. New Jersey residents seeking immediate information on medicine disposal, drug information questions, and information about treating poison emergencies, should call the toll-free hotline, 1-800-222-1222, anytime. The hearing impaired may call 973-926-8008.

NJPIES provides free consultation through telephone hotline services and the web. Medical professionals such as physicians, registered nurses, and pharmacists offer confidential advice regarding poison emergencies and provide information on poison prevention, drugs, food poisoning, animal bites and more. Operation Medicine Cabinet

The Medford Lakes Police Department, will be hosting an Operation Medicine Cabinet New Jersey local collection site as part of the first statewide medicine disposal day in the nation. The event will take place at the Medford Lakes Police Department, 1 Cabin Circle, Medford Lakes, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14. This initiative, open to all residents, was organized to encourage local community residents properly dispose of their unused, unwanted and expired medicine. The Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Jersey Division (DEA), the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General and the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey (PDFNJ), is spearheading this statewide effort, with over 250 participating New Jersey police departments. Medford Lakes residents looking for information on the abuse of prescription and over-the-counter drugs and local collection location information should visit www.operationmedicinecabinetnj.com. Medford Lakes Police Chief Frank Martine stated, “Prescription drug abuse is very prevalent today especially among our youth. It’s very easy to enter into the medicine cabinet and find prescriptions that are no longer being used by the person they were intended. It’s a dangerous situation that seems to be getting worse. The Medford Lakes Police Department is very excited to be part of this initiative not only to give people a safe way to dispose of their unwanted prescription medications but to deliver the public attention to the problem.”

Final Consultant Report

The Borough released the final report from its consultant, which examined options and tax savings associated with entering into a long term contract with Medford Township for police services. However, at its October 14th meeting, Borough Council, by a 2-1 vote, decided to maintain its own police force, and declined to survey Borough taxpayers after expressing little support to continue the discussions.
The final report is available to the public at the Borough offices and on the Borough’s website.

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK - October 4th to 10th

The Medford Lakes Fire Department will be hosting their annual open house to celebrate and educate the community on fire prevention and safety. This year’s theme is, “Stay Fire Smart! Don’t Get Burned”Testing the water before putting a child in the bath may sound like common sense. Wearing short or close-fitting sleeves when cooking on the stovetop may show foresight. This and other simple actions may be all it takes to prevent devastating burns.
Fire Prevention Week 2009 focuses on burn awareness and prevention, as well as keeping homes safe from the leading causes of home fires.
The open house will be on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00pm at the station on Stokes Road. Please join the members of the fire department for a night of learning about fire prevention and safety through literature and demonstrations for adults and children. Refreshments will be served.

Digital Photography Workshop for Beginners

Do you have a digital camera but really have no idea how to use it beyond pushing the shutter button? Or maybe you just want to know how to take better pictures? Come learn about the basic concepts of composition and techniques for digital photography. (There will be a slant towards nature photography).

Autumn Children’s Programs

Smith’s Woods Area, Smithville Park
Thursday, November 5 (Rain date: Friday November 6)
Schools are closed for the teacher’s convention, but the County Parks are open!
Note: Programs meet at Smith’s Woods main parking lot on East Railroad Ave. near picnic area and restrooms. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Parents/guardians should be prepared to stay for the duration of the event (typically an hour to an hour and a half). Please call 609-265-5068 to register so that we have enough materials for everyone.

Leaf Hunt FREE 10:00am
Take a short walk on the red trail to look for different types of leaves that have fallen to the ground. Collect your favorite ones, then learn what tree they belong to. Afterwards, students will do a leaf rubbing that they can take with them. Bring a bag to collect leaves in. (ages 4 and up).

Have Seeds Will Travel FREE 1:00pm
Take a short walk on the red trail to look for different types of seeds that have fallen to the ground and collect the seeds you find. Afterwards, students will put all seeds into a group collection and divide into age appropriate groups to discuss and identify what they found. (recommended for 2nd grade & up).

Cleanup & Invasive Plant Removal

Come out and help us remove some of the invasive plants and cleanup litter at our County Parks. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Wear light colored clothing and bug repellent. If you have large garden shears, loppers, hand clippers, and rubber boots, please bring them with you. (Litter cleanup will occur in wet/muddy areas and rubber boots are recommended for that purpose). Bags and gloves will be provided. RECALL PETITION FAILS

Acting Clerk, Mark McIntosh reported to the Mayor and Council that the effort to recall Mayor Weiss has failed due to lack of support from Medford Lakes voters. Mr. McIntosh indicated that the Recall Committee did not obtain the requisite number of signatures for the question to be placed on the November ballot.
After Mayor Weiss made inquiries to Medford Township about the possibility of sharing police services, a Notice of Recall was filed by a Committee whose members include: Anthony Amato, John J. Gallimore, Louis J. Potter, Michael G. Powers and David D. Wasson. The Committee charged Mayor Weiss with, “Violation of the public trust, improper fiscal responsibility and lack of ability to follow the intent of the open public meeting act in providing adequate notice for a public meeting and failing to provide adequate accommodations for a public at a public meeting.”
Mayor Paul G. Weiss stated, “The failure of the recall effort is a victory for common sense. I am pleased that the voters support Council’s inquiry into the Borough’s delivery of police services, and whether we have reasonable alternatives to reduce taxes through a shared arrangement. The Borough will continue to confront significant financial challenges, and Council must address difficult questions and make informed choices – that’s what the voters expect us to do.”

Pinelands-Friendly Yard & Garden Fair

With vast tracts of unbroken forest, an aquifer system that contains 17-trillion gallons of fresh water, and habitat for rare plants and animals, the million-acre Pinelands area of southern New Jersey is a natural treasure.

People can discover how they can help protect this special region during the second-annual “Pinelands-Friendly Yard & Garden Fair,” which will be held on Saturday, September 12, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge on 4 Sawmill Road in Medford Township, Burlington County.

The event will feature four nurseries selling native Pinelands plants, as well as live animal demonstrations, plant experts and several presentations, including a talk by Mike McGrath, host of the nationally-syndicated public radio talk show "You Bet Your Garden."

Resolution No. 125-09

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING EMERGENCY TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATIONS RELATED TO THE 2009 FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS EVENT

WHEREAS, on August 7, 2009 the Medford Lakes Colony will be hosting their annual “Festival of Lights” event; and

WHEREAS, N.J.R.S. 39:4-197.3 provides that “the governing body of any municipality may, upon the adoption of a resolution, declaring that an emergency or temporary condition dictates adoption of special traffic regulations within the scope of any of the items listed in subparagraph (1 to 8); and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of public safety that special traffic regulations be imposed during the period of time during which the above events are to be held;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Borough Council of the Borough of Medford Lakes, County of Burlington, State of New Jersey as follows:

1. There will be NO PARKING in the following areas between the hours of 6:00pm, August 7, 2009 and 2:00 am, August 8, 2009. Violators will be issued traffic citations and vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Chippewa Trail
No Parking the side opposite Lower Aetna Lake from McKendimen Road to Beach Drive.
Huron Trail
No Parking the entire length on either side.
Tonkawa Trail
No Parking the entire length on the Lower Aetna Lake side.

2. NOTE: On ALL trails within the Borough of Medford Lakes, vehicles parked so as to interfere with traffic flow will be cited and towed at the owner’s expense.

3. All illegally parked vehicles will receive a traffic citation and will be towed to various impound areas throughout Burlington County. Towing and storage fees will be substantial according to law.

4. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: The possession of alcoholic beverages on public areas and on Colony property is prohibited. ALL VIOLATORS WILL BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW.

5. NO CONTAINERS of any sort may be carried onto Beaches One or Two during the evening of Friday, August 7, 2009, Festival of Lights or Saturday, August 8, 2009, Canoe Carnival.

6. LOITERING and LITTERING will be prosecuted.

7. The Chief of Police of the Borough of Medford Lakes is hereby ordered and directed to take all actions appropriate and necessary for the implementation of the foregoing temporary traffic regulations.

RELATED TO THE 2009 CANOE CARNIVAL EVENT

WHEREAS, on August 8, 2009 the Medford Lakes Colony will be hosting their annual “Canoe Carnival” event; and

WHEREAS, N.J.R.S. 39:4-197.3 provides that “the governing body of any municipality may, upon the adoption of a resolution, declaring that an emergency or temporary condition dictates adoption of special traffic regulations within the scope of any of the items listed in subparagraph (1 to 8); and

At 7:30pm, the entire area bounded by Lower and Aetna Lake, McKendimen Road and Hunters Road will be closed to motor vehicle traffic.

Beach Drive
Closed to traffic, except emergency vehicles.
Chippewa Trail
Closed to traffic between McKendimen and Hunters Road, except emergency vehicles.
Sagamore Trail
One-way southbound.
Tonkawa Trail
One-way southbound.
Comanche Trail
Closed to traffic, except emergency vehicles.
Oak Drive
Closed to traffic between McKendimen and Chippewa, except emergency vehicles.
Tabernacle Road
Closed to traffic between Trading Post Trail and Sagamore Trail at 8:30 p.m.
Tabernacle Road
