Bulk Trash Collection

We are experiencing a seemingly endless flow of bulk trash in the Borough and Council is studying several options for managing the situation. These include changing the process and fees associated with this service.
There appears to be some confusion concerning what constitutes “bulk trash”. Bulk trash is those items that cannot fit into the trash cans provided to residents, such as, “white” goods, old refrigerators or washers. Bulk trash is not lots of ordinary trash that would otherwise fit into the trash can or debris generated from a construction project that should be placed in an on-site dumpster.

Presently, a resident can request a bulk trash picked up every Friday at no charge. Some are using the service quite frequently and the type and quantity of this trash appears to be growing. With our limited resources, we need to assess how to manage this increase in the most cost effective manner.

In addition to examining how other towns manage bulk trash, the Borough has assigned Mr. David Crane, our new Code Enforcement Officer, to track bulk trash pickups and make recommendations to Council.

We welcome your thoughts and ideas. Please share your suggestions on this important matter with members of Council
