THE BOROUGH OF MEDFORD LAKES TO CONDUCT A SURVEY OF RESIDENTS AS IT STUDIES POSSIBLE AGREEMENT WITH MEDFORD TOWNSHIP FOR SHARED POLICE SERVICES

At its January 28, 2009 meeting, Borough Council adopted a resolution authorizing a mailed survey to better gauge resident sentiment for the outsourcing of police services to the Medford Township police, which may represent a significant cost savings for Borough residents over the life of the agreement, while maintaining professional policing and public safety services.
As it continues to evaluate a shared police services proposal with Medford Township, the Borough of Medford Lakes is investigating alternatives to deliver police services to residents, and plans to hold further meetings with Borough Police and Medford Township representatives to clarify actual cost savings and other terms and conditions under a possible shared services arrangement.
“Council intends to fully examine the Medford proposal, and provide all registered voters the opportunity to weigh-in on this issue” Mayor Weiss said. “We recognize the implications of this decision for all parties, and remain committed to evaluating this opportunity in a thorough and expeditious fashion.”
Questions may be addressed to: Mayor Weiss or Geoffrey Urbanik, Borough Manager at 609-654-8898.
