A MESSAGE FROM THE BOROUGH OF MEDFORD LAKES TAX OFFICE

A UPDATED MESSAGE FROM THE BOROUGH OF MEDFORD LAKES TAX OFFICE
As everyone is aware by now, the 2007 - 2008 Tax Bills have been delayed. The reason for the delay is that the Borough had applied to the State for $375,00 in Extraordinary Municipal Aid. However, the State of New Jersey has determined that we are not eligible for aid. Council expects to approve the 2007 Budget at a Special Meeting on August 9, 2007 and then the County Tax Board will compute our tax rate and we will prepare the Tax Bills and send them out. We anticipate that the bills will be mailed out within the next two weeks. Most importantly, the grace period will be extended in order to allow residents to have sufficient time to pay their taxes. Because we were denied any Extraordinary Aid by the State, it will be necessary to recoup the difference by increasing the tax rate. We estimate the maximum that this increase would be will amount to $104.00 annually on a home assessed at the average of $148,000. This increase is independent of and will be in addition to any tax increase associated with the County, Lenape Regional School District and the Medford Lakes School District Budgets. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Borough Offices at 609.654.8898 from 8:30 AM through 5:00 PM. The Borough Tax Collector, Ms. Sharon Deviney is available in the office on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00 PM until 8:30 PM.

HOUSE NUMBERING for SAFETY & EFFICIENCY

The International Property Maintenance Code (adopted 11/24/04) requires that all buildings in the Borough shall have address numbers placed in a position to be plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property. These numbers shall contrast with their background and be a minimum of four (4) inches high and a stroke width of (one-half) 1/2 inch. The numbering of your property aides in quick identification by Police, Fire and EMS units and it also helps the public works department with pick-ups and deliveries to your property. In the last two (2) weeks of large trash pick-ups by the Public Works department, a total of twenty-one (21) homes were found to be missing numbers.

Easi Prooperty

The Borough has entered into a consent agreement with the owners of the Easi property at the corner of Lenape and Stokes road which will result in the removal of the current structures by no later than November 1st, 2007. This will allow the present owners an opportunity to complete a potential commercial sale of the property. However, regardless of whether a sale goes through, the structures are to be removed by November. In the event the structures are not removed by November, the Borough retains the right to perform demolition on it's own and put a lien on the property to reimburse costs.

Oaks Hall Construction Update - July 11

As everyone can see, the log shell of the new municipal building is now up. A contract for the staining of the logs is in process and the windows for the building are on order and should be installed in early August which will complete the building envelop.

Bid specs for the final interior fitout of the interior of the building including all electrical, mechanical, HVAC and all other interior finishes is in process and will be out for bid by the end of July. It is Borough Council's intent to award a General Construction bid for the completion of all remaining interior fitout. Completion of the site work will be handled by a separate bid. This should put the building on schedule for completion by year end.
